ACJ Phakade Primary School are proud u-13 boys seven aside champions for Metro East Education District.
This is after defeating Petunia Primary School 2-0 in Kuils River on Saturday 17 September.
The school that hails from Nomzamo in Strand came well prepared for the daunting task ahead of the games.
After not being able to play as the results of Covid-19 pandemic, the boys showed what they are made of, though, some rustiness was also visible.
School teacher Masixole Mbanjwa said the boys enjoyed themselves at the games which is most important for learners.
“You could see the boys were having issues and one noted that they haven’t been playing for sometime. The games were very tough but I think we were more prepared than other teams,” he said.
An excited Mbanjwa said they had to prepare themselves thoroughly and also learn the rules of seven aside.
“A lot of mistakes were being committed by other teams in regard to the rules of seven asides. Our preparation also involve of familiarising ourselves with the rules and that worked in our favour as well,” he said.
School principal, Thobile Majingo told City Vision they were proud of the achievement of the under-13 boys.
“We are quite excited to come up tops over 32 teams that competed at the tournament. These boys have really made us proud as the school,” he said.
The school’s u-13 girls were defeated on quarter finals.
