Lwandle Community Policing Forum (CPF) has applauded Lwandle police after they nabbed a Zimbabwean man for selling fake matric certificates, fire competency and SIRA certificates.
The 45-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday 16 February at Asanda Village and has been remanded in custody.
Police were certifying documents when they noticed something amiss with some of the certificates. They started an investigation which led them to Asanda Village where the suspect was arrested.
According to police spokesperson Sgt Mthokozisi Gama, the suspect was found in position of equipment to make and print certificates.
“When police arrived at a house situated at Asanda ViIlage they found one Lenovo laptop, three computers, two laminating machines, six printing machines, two computer keyboards, two cashier machines and five computer monitors,” said Gama.
He said the suspect appeared in the Strand Magistrates’ Court on Friday 18 February on fraud charges. He will appear again tomorrow (25 February) for bail hearing.
Phumeza Makhubela, CPF public relations officer, said they are happy with the police work after nabbing such “characters in our community”.
“We now await the law to take its course. There’s a need for justice to make a serious example about such people,” she said.
Makhubela said the community also needed to come forward and expose such people as they are also on the verge of losing whatever they may have had after using such forgery certificates.
Gama said Lwandle acting station commander, Capt Bibiana Madala commended the excellent work and dedication by Lwandle police members.
Police request anyone who might assist in the investigation to contact Lwandle police detectives on 021 845 2060.
