Nyanga Community Policing Forum (CPF) is worried about the constant shooting and killing incidents plaguing the area.
This comes after a woman, who was selling slaughtered chickens near Nyanga clinic along Sithandathu Avenue, was allegedly gunned down by an Avanza driver on Friday 22 September.
The latest killing follows a similar incident in Mau-mau where an unknown man was shot and killed allegedly by his friends.
Nyanga CPF secretary Dumisani Qwebe said they were shocked by the incident. He said it seemed no one was safe in the area.
“We don’t know what the motive behind the incident was. We heard that the deceased was allegedly shot by a man who was driving an Avanza after that he fled the scene. The deceased died on the spot,” said Qwebe.
He stated that crime in the area appeared to be getting out of hand. “About two weeks ago there was an incident where an unknown man was gunned down allegedly by his friends after a short argument in Mau-mau. As community need to reclaim our streets. We can’t allow the criminals to do as they pleased in our areas,” he stated.
Qwebe urged the community to work with the police to apprehend the perpetrator.
Provincial police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that Nyanga police are investigating a case of murder.
He said according to reports, a 56-year-old female was shot and fatally wounded by an unknown male suspect who drove away in a gold Toyota Avanza.
