Life will never be the same for the learners at Chuma Primary School in Town Two after they received new school jerseys from the Wesley Guild of the United Methodist Church in Southern Africa.
At least 21 learners benefited from the handover on Friday 10 March. The Philippi-based church described the initiative as part of giving back to the community.
Guild member Nondumiso Charlie said the event was the first for the youth. “As the Wesley Guild, we have an initiative called the Christian Citizen Development (CCD) Campaign which consists of three members. We identify families, schools, organisations, etc that are in need in our communities. We donate whatever they need. Our aim is to bring the church closer to the people,” she said, adding they started the initiative early this year.
They are focusing on both primary and high schools.
Charlie stated that giving back is part of showing love to the community.
Teacher Phozisa Ben said they are extremely happy with the contribution. She said it would make a difference to the learners.
“There are learners who are really in need of the school jerseys. Some of them lost their school uniform during a shack fire in Town Two last month. They had nothing to wear at school. The jerseys will make a difference to them,” said Ben.
Grade 4 learner Ndimphiwe Mathanga (10) thanked the church for the great initiative. He said the jersey would help him during winter.
