In one of the sucesses, in the early hours of Monday 15 January, Leap officers responded to gunshots in Mfuleni.

On arrival, they saw three men fleeing, and found a fourth individual in a vehicle. As officers approached the car, the driver sped off. After a high speed chase through the area the suspect eventually collided with another vehicle, he then surrendered.

Officers found him in possession of a 9 mm pistol and two live rounds of ammunition. A search of the car later revealed another pistol and 47 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, including 25 AK-47 rounds.

“Our enforcement services deal with a lot on a daily basis, and these latest successes show once again the amount of effort and commitment that goes into their jobs. Not only do they put their lives on the line as we saw in the latest example in Mfuleni, that also led to the recovery of prohibited firearms and ammunition, but drug dealers too are becoming increasingly crafty at hiding their stashes, from toilet bowls to ceilings, inside stoves and now even vacuum cleaners. However, our staff are up to the task, as the confiscations in the last week have shown, and we commend them for it,” says JP Smith, Mayco member for safety and security.

Residents are reminded to phone 021 480 77 00 from a cell phone and 107 from a landline to report any criminal activity or emergency.
