Nyanga community stakeholders welcomed the new Nyanga Police Station commander with open arms, saying they are ready to work with her.

Brig Lindiwe Dyantyi, who previously worked at Mitchell’s Plain Police Station, swapped positions with Brig Jan Alexander.

Alexander joined the station for a brief spell.

Alexander was stationed at Nyanga Police Station for a month before he moved to Mitchell’s Plain.

In a short statement, the provincial police spokesperson Col Andre Traut confirmed that Alexander was transferred to Mitchell’s Plain, while Dyantyi moved to Nyanga.

He described Alexander’s transfer as in the interest of service delivery.

Dyantyi joined the station on Tuesday 29 November.

Nyanga Spiritual Crime Prevention Forum (SCPF) chair Mawande Lugongolo said they are pleased to have a permanent station commander and are ready to work with her.

He said the forum is committed to working with Dyantyi as they have done with other officers.

“We are hoping we will meet her soon as a structure to introduce ourselves and try to find a strategic plan on how we are going to work. Our goal is to fight crime in the Nyanga precinct by ensuring police visibility on our streets,” said Lugongolo. He said Dyantyi’s presence would provide stability at the station.

Nyanga Community Policing Forum secretary Dumisani Qwebe reiterated Lugongolo’s sentiment that they welcomed Dyantyi with open arms. He said as the CPF they are busy introducing her to some of the areas around Nyanga.

“We’ve been with her to Crossroads, Philippi and Nyanga and the reception was superb. We are looking forward to working with her to fight crime in Nyanga. Our aim is to ensure that our station is out of the danger zone and no longer described as a murder capital,” said Qwebe.
