Local residents are appealing for a speedy investigation into the kidnapping and subsequent killing of a renowned doctor.
The doctor, whose identity has been withheld, ran a surgery from a shipping container in Samora Machel and was dearly loved by the community.
According to police report, the doctor was kidnapped from his surgery on Thursday 21 July.
His body was later found the same day in the boot of his car at Barcelona informal settlement in Gugulethu.
Gugulethu Police Station spokesperson Sgt Sindisiwe Ngqele said a murder case has been opened. Police were informed by the community about an abandoned car without a registration number at Barcelona, said Ngqele.
“On the arrival police saw a Yaris.When they opened the boot they saw a plastic bag with the body of a man (39) and his hands were tied. While on the scene the deceased’s colleague arrived and identified him as his boss,” she said.
Ngqele urged witnesses with vital information to come forward.
The news came as a shock to the local community and residents are appealing to the law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their quest to find the culprits.
Samora Machel Community Policing Forum spokesperson Bongani Maqungwana described the killing as “unfortunate” for the community.
“The sad thing is that the incident happened in front of the deceased’s employees. According to the employees, the culprits took his phone and ordered them not to report it to the police,” he said, adding that the culprits threatened to kill the employees if they phoned the police.
