Children from early childhood development centres (ECDs) in Langa held an Easter Hunt Bunny event at Love Life Centre in the area on Wednesday 16 April for a day of fun and celebration.

The event was organised by the Langa Early Childhood Development Forum. Kids from 15 centres attended the event.

They conducted various activities, including bunny hunting, running and playing games.

Langa ECD Forum chair and the principal at Khanyisile Educare Centre, Thozama Tukulu described the occasion as an annual event. She described it as an effort to sharpen their minds.

“Children grow by experimenting or playing. Sometimes parents have to let the children play. Let’s give them the freedom of movement,” she said.

Tukulu emphasised that they have 35 centres in their forum, but others failed to attend for various reasons. “This is part of socialising. As the forum we created a standard where all the centres in Langa are doing almost the same thing. What the centre at Settlers does, the one in Joe Slovo informal settlement does it,” she explained, adding that they are trying to get rid of inequality.

The principal of Gege’s Educare Centre at Zone 3, Ondela Dumezweni described the event as educational. She said it also gives the children an opportunity to explore and learn new things. Dumezweni urged parents to take their children to creches instead of keeping them at home.
