While Christians across the globe spent the weekend celebrating Easter festivities and reconnecting with the Lord, the residents of Nomzamo found themselves entangled in a devious act.
As Christians marked the death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday, at least two people were murdered in separate incidents.
In a suspected love triangle, a 30-year-old Zimbabwean man was stabbed to death in Simon Street.
In a second incident, a 31-year-old was stabbed to death by three unknown men around 19:30.
Lwandle Police Station spokesperson Sgt Mthokozisi Gama said crime scene experts are hard at work to bring perpetrators to book.
“The first incident took place at about 07:30 in Simon Street, Nomzamo. It is alleged that a man arrived at his girlfriend’s place, opened the door with his key and found her sleeping with another man. An argument ensued between the two men and led to a gruesome fight.
The man who had just arrived at the home took out a knife and stabbed the 30-year-old Zimbabwean foreign national man to death before fleeing the scene,” said Gama.
He stated that in the second incident, the 31-year-old deceased was stabbed to death in the upper body by three unknown men. He said the victim was allegedly chased by the suspects from Milton Street until they caught him at Richmond Street, in Nomzamo, where they stabbed him several times. He died immediately.
A resident Sbu Memani said he was shocked when he heard about the incident.
“This incident happened at the back of my street (Simon Street). It seems the two guys were fighting about a girlfriend. I don’t know who the main man is. But when the other guy arrived, he found his girlfriend sleeping with another man, so they fought and one of them was stabbed,” said Memani.
He described crime in the community as a daily occurrence.
“People are getting robbed every weekend. The police are trying their best to fight crime but they cannot cope. If the minister of police can deploy more officers, maybe things will get better” he said.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact Lwandle police detective, Detective Warrant Officer Marius Erasmus on 060 997 7776 or 021 845 2060.
