Former ward 89 councillor Monde Nqulwana elected as acting KDF chair

After the resignation of Ndithini Tyhido as the chair of the Khayelitsha Development Forum (KDF), Monde Nqulwana has taken over on an interim basis.

Nqulwana, who previously served as Ward 89 councillor, was co-opted as the acting chair during a special meeting on Monday 25 March at the Khayelitsha Training Centre, following Tyhido’s sudden departure from the structure over the weekend.

The gathering was attended by different structures, including ward development forum (WDF) chairs.

Tyhido has been at the helm of the KDF since 2013.

Last year, he was elected as the chair of the African National Congress (ANC) in the Dullar Omar region.

His departure left a void in the structure.

KDF secretary Veza Nethi said Nqulwana’s name was endorsed by everyone in a meeting till the next conference in 2027.

“The deputy chair will continue with her job as usual. Nqulwana is going to act in the chair’s position until the next conference. People will decide in the conference if they want him to continue as a chair or not,” he stated.

Veza said the aim is to stabilise the forum by making sure all the positions are fully filled.

When City Vision asked him why he took so long to resign he said he wanted a smooth transition.

“I had been in the top structure of KDF for 15 years and served as the chair for eight years 10 months. I had two full terms and each term was four years. I believe my time is over now to hand it over to the new generation. But, I’m still an activist.

“I will continue fighting for our communities to get service delivery,” he said.

He said as KDF its priority is to provide development and unmask all the shenanigans being done by the City in Khayelitsha. He said it was an honour for him to lead the people of Khayelitsha.
