Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit detectives are probing an incident that claimed the lives of four men, aged 30 to 40, and injured two at Albertina Sisulu Drive, Makhaya, Khayelitsha on Saturday 13 January.
Provincial police spokesperson Col André Traut said the incident occurred around 19:30 when unknown men allegedly opened fire on the deceased and fled the scene. “Two other men were also injured during the same incident and are being treated in hospital. The suspects fled the scene and are being pursued by police. The motive for the multiple murder case is yet to be determined.
Harare Community Policing Forum chair Funeka Soldaat described the incident as shocking, saying it is rare for such incidents to occur in the area. She urged law-enforcement agencies not to leave any stone unturned.
“We started the year on a terrible note,” she said, “we were shocked by the incident. And the sad part is that some of the deceased were very young. And we are appealing to anyone who has information about the shooting to inform the nearest police station.” The forum was still waiting for the officers to provide it with the full report of what caused the incident, Soldaat said.
She appealed for more police visibility in the area to curb crime. Any person with information regarding the incident is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 086000 10 111 or by using the My SAPS mobile application.
