Lack of funds and resources did not deter Khayelitsha Judo Club from raking in medals during the weekend’s Cape Town Judo Association (CTJA) Trials.

The event was held at Belhar Sports Centre on Saturday 9 April with 20 players representing the club, with almost every player making it to the podium for a winner’s medal.

Coach Sensei Tsepo Nashwa, who currently works at the University of Cape Town, praised all their players for their dedication and enthusiasm.

“A huge acknowledgement to the parents for availing their kids to participate. A big thank you to the kids who have shown good character and belief in the coaching team, a wonderful support system throughout the entire group of friends that we always get embraced with their present is so exciting in the venues.

“As the chairperson of the GK Judo Club I extend my gratitude and appreciation to all the kids for such a commitment, accomplishment and trust they always have, their invested time has paid off in good will. Thank you once again as a group we can change the space we live in and make it a better place and that has prevailed in the number of medals we have collected as a Khayelitsha Judo Club

“Our wish as a club is to see every member of the family in the next coming national tournament supporting us, we are yet to find a donor or a funder. The club is in quest of any form of sponsorship to change the lives of these kids whom some of them live in informal settlements.”

Phone Nashwa on 071 896 2627 to assist.
