Hantu United thrashed Black Stars 6-0 in a league match played at Vuyiseka Sport Complex on Saturday 14 May.

The Better Life-based team went to the half time leading 2-0.

United coach Lungani Matiwane said the game was tough despite endless opportunities for the opposition.

“In football if you don’t take your chances your opponent will use them,” said Matiwane.

“So, on Saturday that was the case because we had very few chances, but we managed to convert them all. He highlighted that his squad for the day was not up to stretch. Some of my regular players were not there. I had to select from my reserve team. We made some silly mistakes during the match because some players lost the ball easily.”

Stars coach Bahle Mbekushe blamed his players for failing to take their chances.

“We had more chances than they had,” he pointed out.

“But we failed to convert them to goals. We managed to control the game, especially in the first stanza. I think I made wrong choices when I made substitutions in the second half.”

Mbekushe described the loss as a learning curve and apologised to his supporters for the “poor performance” in the match.

“I can promise the supporters it won’t happen again,” he said. “We can’t be beaten back to back. What they witnessed last Saturday was a disaster.”

Both teams are playing in the Philippi East Local Football Association. United is in position four while Stars is in position seven of the eight team log. Stars have four points from seven games.
