Members of the Harare Community Policing Forum are saddened by the killing of one of their own.

Asanda Gazi, an active member of the forum, was gunned down at Zwezwe on Sunday 26 June, while walking with her husband.

The husband, whose name has not been divulged, was injured in the attack. He died at the Khayelitsha District Hospital the next day, Monday 27 June.

Harare CPF chair Funeka Soldaat said the forum lost a dedicated member. She described the news as a hard pill to swallow.

“We heard the news this morning (Monday27 June). I couldn’t believe it when I first heard it. The forum visited the family of the deceased,” she said.

Soldaat described Gazi as a brave and straightforward woman. “She dedicated her life to fighting crime in the community. Even though she was married she would attend all the evening meetings and also go for patrols sometimes” explained Soldaat.

She appealed to the law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their quest to find their culprits.

Harare Police Station spokesperson Sgt Nosiphiwo Mntengwane confirmed the incident. She stated that no arrest has yet been made and appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
