Hlengisa Primary School in Nyanga celebrates the World Aids Day in style

Hlengisa Primary School in Nyanga, Cape Town celebrated World Aids Day in style on Friday 1 December when it held a short programme before learners started their clean-up of the area.


In celebration of World Aids Day Hlengisa Primary School in Nyanga held a special programme followed by a clean-up operation in the area around the school.

Deputy
principal Mzwandile Gaji described the event as “a special day” on which to commemorate
those who died of Aids-related illnesses and promote
public awareness of the disease.

“This is our first-ever event we held at school,” he pointed out, “but we intend to do
this annually. Our aim is to encourage
healthy living in a clean environment.”

Gaji urged
communities to support people living with the virus, because gone are the days
when people living with it were discriminated against.
He also said it is everyone’s business to
ensure the community is safe and clean.

Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith addresses the World Aids Day gathering at Hlengisa Primary.

City of Cape Town Mayco Member for Safety and
Security JP Smith, who was also present at the
event, urged learners to stop doing wrong. He said
the City wishes to see the reduction of crime
in all areas. He encouraged people to report
any suspicious-looking incidents or
occurrences to the nearest police station.
