Teachers and learners from Imbasa Primary School in Crossroads marched to the site where the body of Isiphile September was discovered.
The eight-year-old’s body was found in a bag at Sagwityi Street in Crossroads on Friday 19 August.
Her gruesome killing followed that of Aviwe Mkhosi whose body was found in a bin a few metres from where September’s body was discovered.
Waving placards, on Tuesday 30 August the learners marched to the crime scene. “Lala Ngoxolo Isiphile September” , “Yiba Lilizwi Lam Andivakali”, “Stop Killing U”, and “Protect Us”, read some of the messages.
September’s class teacher Nonzukiso Joka described the event as a commemoration of her former learner’s life. She described September’s death as shocking and painful.
“The day I received the shocking news of his departure I couldn’t teach. I had this picture of him roaming around the class and talking to other learners. Isiphile was a bubbly and talkative child. As soon as he finished doing his work he would go around talking to other learners,” she recalled.
Joka stated that September’s death left a huge void in the class.
School Governing Body (SGB) deputy chair Ncumisa Poni said the school is heartbroken by the incident and urged the community to be vigilant.
“The perpetrators deserve to rot in jail. Not only the school but the whole Ward 36 is saddened by this incident,” said Poni.
Isiphile’s former classmate Imbusise Ntibithethwa (7) said she missed September’s sense of humour.
“I want the person who killed Isiphile to be arrested for the rest of his life.
