Khayelitsha Development Forum (KDF) chair Ndithini Tyhido resigned from his position with immediate effect on Sunday 24 March. He said he had handed his letter of resignation to KDF committee members, leaving the way open for new leadership. Tyhido, who is currently an African National Congress (ANC) Dullah Omar Region chair, was elected at the regional conference last August.
He was serving his third term as KDF chair when he resigned. Asked by City Vision why he had taken so long to step down, he said he wanted a smooth transition.
“I had 15 years in the top structure of KDF, eight years and 10 months of which serving as chair. I had two full terms, each four years long. I believe my time is over, and now it’s time to hand the position over to new generations. But I’m still an activist. I will continue fighting so our communities can receive proper service delivery.” Tyhido said KDF’s priority is to provide development and unmask all the City’s shenanigans being waged in Khayelitsha. He said it was an honour for him to lead the people of Khayelitsha.
KDF secretary Veza Nethi confirmed Tyhido’s resignation, adding that the forum wished him all the best in his future endeavours. He said the KDF’s top structure was to have a special meeting today (Monday 25 March) with all the ward development forum’s chairs in Khayelitsha.
“According to our constitution, in the absence of a chairperson the deputy chair resumes all duties [in an acting capacity] until the next plenary, where a final decision is made. Tyhido’s resignation is a painful one, but we were expecting it. Yet we are also delighted because he (Tyhido) knew when to leave the stage.”
