In an attempt to give back to his community and promote young artists, the renowned gospel artist Athenkosi Gqwetha will host his second Bring It Home Annual Gospel Festival on Monday 25 December at Qawukeni, in King Williams Town, Eastern Cape.

The Khayelitsha based musician and award winner, said he felt there was a need to perform in his home town and motivate other young artists.

“The festival will be in my village. Part of my intention is to promote the local artists in my village and surrounding areas. Some of them are struggling to get opportunities to perform in huge events. So, I’m creating a platform to unearth the unknown talent,” he explained.

He also described the festival as part of the reunion.

Gqwetha won the Best National Newcomer Award at the second Bokone Bophirima Gospel Music Awards (BBGMA) held in Potchefstroom, North West, in November last year.

He said he aimed to see the event grow, adding that his main challenge was to source sponsors. He mentioned he organised the event out of love.

“All the costs for the event are coming out of my pocket. As it is still new, many people don’t know about it and my challenge is to make it successful by ensuring that the line-up is appealing. But I believe it will grow as time goes by. And I’m hoping that some well-known artists will join us in the future.” Gqwetha urged all people to wear all-white to the event.

He has an album released in 2020 entitled Uyaphila under his belt.

In 2022, he released an Extended Play (EP) entitled “Better 2022”.

In January this year, he released a single called “Inceba”.

Gqwetha said people are allowed to bring their cooler bags, and tickets are available at R50 each.
