The killing of two security officers in Samora Machel on Wednesday 19 October has left the community reeling.
The incident occurred on the corner of Duma Nokwe and Weltevreden Parkway roads in the afternoon.
According to reports, the officers were driving in their work vehicle when unknown men approached their car and opened fire.
Samora Machel Community Policing Forum spokesperson Bongani Maqungwana said the community is still in shock. He called for law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their quest to bring perpetrators to book.
He indicated that, in August this year, a police officer in full uniform was gunned down while returning from work in the morning.
“It (crime) is getting out of hand. They are targeting law enforcement officers. We want the perpetrators to rot in jail. By killing our law enforcement agencies, they are undermining our constitution,” he said.
Provincial police spokesperson W/OJoseph Swartbooi confirmed the incident.
He added that the victims were two male security guards aged 30 and 40.
The victims were travelling in the security vehicle and as they approached Duma Nokwe and Weltevreden Parkaway roads suspects opened fire on them, said Swaartbooi.
“Both victims succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds. A case of murder has been opened for investigation and the suspects are yet to be arrested.”
