Lagunya has the opportunity on Saturday 1 October to prevent Violets from being the fourth team to qualify for the play-off in the Promotion League of Western Province Rugby Union if they beat them in Athlone.

Hamediehs and Van der Stel-Evergreens automatically qualified for Super League C by virtue of being in position one and two on the log.

Three teams will fight it out on 1 October to determine who will play against Masiphumelele, currently lying third on the play-off log. The trio are Violets, Blakes and Sir Lowrians, and the play-off winner will join Hamediehs and Van der Stel-Evergreens in Super League C next year.

Masiphumelele sneaked in by the back door and have 24 points on the log, while the three contenders are all tied on 19 points.

All eyes will be on the battle between Blakes and Sir Lowrians in Stellenbosch as this match is a must win for both teams. On Saturday 17 September, Hamediehs dispatched of Blakes in Athlone 28-18 and Sir Lowrians send Lagunya home with a 31-27 defeat.

Violets had a bye and will come out all guns blazing against Lagunya.

In Lagunya’s last two encounters they gave their opponents a run for their money with all the players back from injuries and niggles. The fact that they are on a roll in losing by five points or less in these encounters shows they want to finish their campaign on a high.

Not one of the teams can expect a favour from anyone, each one will have to make sure they are victorious to make the play-off.

Team three and four will play on a neutral ground and rugby enthusiasts can expect an intense battle. However, all eyes will thus be on the outcome of the matches of the three teams currently locked on 19 points.

Hamediehs dispatched Blakes in Athlone by 28-18 and dashed the latter’s hopes of a better log position. Northerns from Elsies River is still looking for their first win, and came second-best against Masiphumelele in Noordhoek by 27-10.

Masiphumelele travels to Atlantis for their match.

On Saturday 24 September no matches are played and teams will only be in action on Saturday 1 October.
