Langa Safety Patrol (LSP) members will soon have a designated spot to run their operations, thanks to Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and Mayco member for safety and security JP Smith.
Last year, the pair donated a shipping container to the LSP to boost their fight against crime and encourage members to continue doing the great job that they are doing for the community.
However, the container has not been used because it had no electricity.
After months of being on display at Johnson Ngwevela Hall, the facility is officially opening today (28 March). It has since been fitted with wifi and electricity.
LSP chair Bandile Gcuwa praised different role-players for coming to the fore in ensuring the container served its purpose.
“As of today (28 March), we expect everything to be up and running. Our office will now be fully operational,” said Gcuwa.
He expressed his gratitude to all the people who contributed, citing that their contribution would make their job easier.
Gcuwa said it was not only a relief to them but to the entire community. He said people would know where to find them in times of need.
“Our office will be open from 08:00 to 16:00 daily. Patrollers at night will gather nearAstron Energy Garage in Langa before they disperse.
“They will not use the office. We appreciate the support that we receive from the community and we promise them we will do all in our power to ensure Langa is a free crime zone,” he stated.
