Langa Police Station spokesperson, Capt. Nondumiso Paul, said that a double murder case has been opened. “Unknown assailants suddenly emerged and opened fire on the security vehicle. One guard died at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries in the hospital later on. More than 15 cartridge casings were found at the scene. “What’s particularly alarming is that this happened during rush hour, when people are commuting to work and students are headed to school. Innocent bystanders could easily have been caught in the crossfire. We need heightened police visibility.”

He also voiced concerns about the rising crime rates in the area, citing car hijackings, gender-based violence, murder, and domestic violence as some of the most frequently reported incidents to the police station.
