Prasa, Metrorail Western Cape regrets to inform commuters of a temporary suspension of services from Cape Town to Nolungile due to an electrical fault that affected the overhead wires on Monday (10 February) afternoon.
At approximately 16:50, the People’s Train number number 9915, that is also known as the Electrical Multiple Unit (EMU) was damaged by the contact wire (the wire that brings power to the train) at Nolungile station. It is reported that there were no commuters nor train crew harmed during the incident. The Occupational Health and Safety Environment (OHSE) switch was activated, and the Fire department came to the scene to assist.
A technical investigation into the incident is underway. Customers are advised to seek alternative travel arrangements between Nolungile and Nyanga stations. Prasa Metrorail Western Cape apologises for the inconvenience this may have caused and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
