Samora Machel Community Policing Forum is appealing to anyone who has relevant information about the killing of a well-known man by the name of Malombo on Tuesday 24 May to come forward. He died in a hail of bullets on the corner of Oliver Tambo and Robert Sobukwe roads. The motive behind his killing is unclear.
Samora Machel CPF spokesperson Bongani Maqunwana described the incident as devastating. He described Malombo as a young hustler who was selling amasi and using his house as a gym or fitness centre. “The way he was killed was traumatic,” said Maqungwana. “There were more than 20 cartridges that were found on the scene. It was clear that the culprits wanted to finish him.”
Maqungwana describes the crime in the area as moderate. “It was more than a month without any shooting incident reported before this Malombo incident occurred. The police are trying their best to stabilise crime.
“And we urge anyone with relevant information regarding the incident to come forward. Police cannot fight crime alone. They need our support as a community.”
Samora Machel station commander Lt Col Elliot Lingani confirmed the incident, stating a murder case had been opened but no arrests had been made yet.
