Police are searching for suspects and witnesses to a shooting incident that happened at Ematayarini in Gugulethu on Saturday 16 July.
It is alleged the victim, whose identity has not been revealed, was gunned down near the popular business place by the occupants of a private vehicle. The motive for the killing is unknown.
One of the residents from NY114, who described himself as T-man for the fear of harassment, said the incident shocked many people. He said according to those who witnessed the incident, the perpetrators clearly targeted the deceased.
“The perpetrators got out of a car and shot the man before fleeing the scene. But it seems the perpetrators were targeting the deceased because they only shot him,” said T-man.
The business has temporarily closed down.
Provincial police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg said the circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear and police are investigating. He said the victim was a male.
“According to reports, Gugulethu police were called to the crime scene where they found the victim with gunshot wounds to the head and neck. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by paramedics,” said Twigg.
Twigg stated that the suspect or suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. Anyone with information about this incident is requested to contact Crime Stop on08600 10111.
