Langa residents are traumatised after a group of people shot and killed an unknown man at the corner of Moffati Street and Moshesh Avenue on Wednesday 29 June.
It is alleged that the perpetrators followed the deceased before they started to attack him.
One of the residents who refused to be named for fear of retaliation described the killing as well orchestrated. “I don’t know the deceased’s name, but I’ve heard people talking about him and it seems he was so dangerous. The perpetrators were following the deceased before the shots,” he said, adding that the deceased died on the spot.
“There was no way that the deceased could survive. There were more than 10 shots that were fired by the perpetrators,” he said.
He also believed the incident could be gang-related, as adding that gangsterism was rife in the area.
Langa police station spokesperson Capt Nondumiso Paul confirmed the incident. She said at approximately 17:00 Langa officers were informed of a shooting incident.
She said according to reports, the deceased was followed by a group of unknown males who then started shooting at him. “He died on the scene. At least 10 cartridges were found on the scene. A murder case has been opened,” sad Paul.
