Masiphumelele will go all out on Saturday 8 October to qualify as the third team to play in Super League C next year when they meet Violets in the playoff of the Promotion League at City Park.
Masiphumelele finished third on the log and had to wait to see who of the three teams – Blakes, Violets or Sir Lowrians – would be their opponents in the playoff.
The winner this coming Saturday will join Hamediehs and Van der Stel-Evergreens (VDE) next year in Super League C. Both qualified for finishing in position one and two on the log in the Promotion League competition.
On Saturday 1 October all eyes were on the encounter in Stellenbosch where Blakes hosted Sir Lowrians in their last game. The game was brutal and on a knife’s edge with Sir Lowrians throwing the ball around. Blakes could only manage a win in the final minutes of the game when they scored a try to win by 27-23.
Violets progressed to the playoff due to a better points difference and was leading Blakes by 10 points before the encounters the past Saturday. Blakes could only progress if they beat Sir Lowrians by more than 20 points, which was not the case.
In Lansdowne, Violets was too good for Lagunya and was victorious by 36-28.
Masiphumelele travelled to Atlantis for their game against the home team and won 48-27.
Hamediehs thumped Northerns 38-26 in Athlone and was crowned the Promotion League champions.
The format this year in the Promotion league was that the two top teams would automatically be promoted to Super League C.
Teams in position three and four would contest a playoff to determine which team will join teams in position one and two, who happened to be Hamediahs and Van der Stel-Evergreens.
The rest of the teams who did not make it, will again compete next year in the zonal competition in the Southern, Northern and City League.
The three teams in the last three positions in Super League C automatically dropped to the zonal competition and they are Strand United, Raithby-Universals and Elsies River.
All the play-offs will be held at City Park on Saturday 8 October to determine which teams play in which competition of Western Province Rugby Union in 2023.

Violets 36, Lagunya 28
