I n an effort to educate children about the Bible values, Metro Kids Africa held Bible studies where they taught them about doing good to other people.
The event was held at KTC Hall on Friday 20 October. Metro Kids Africa (MKA)is an international non-profit organisation specialising in educating young people about the importance of reading the Bible.
The programme manager for the organisation Unathi Diniso said the aim is to teach young people about God so that they can refrain from wrongdoings. She said they believe in teaching children while are still young. “We realised that many people make wrong choices when they are growing up because they lack guidance. We believe that educating them now about God will have an impact on their adulthood,” said Diniso, adding that they target children between the ages of four to 12.
She said they also conduct after-school programmes where they teach them life skills.
“We are working in different areas like Nyanga, Khayelitsha, Philippi, Gugulethu, Manenberg etc. Young children, who have been through our programmes, are taught leadership skills. They are trained to lead and care for the younger children. We also visit the children’s families, offering emotional and food support where necessary,” she stated.
Diniso praised the parents for their support of the initiative.
One of the children, who attended the event, Ava Madikane (9) said she had been attending the classes for almost a year. “It helps me a lot. It changes my life. Now, I can distinguish what is right and what is wrong. They taught us respect,”she said.
