In a tough u-18 league match played at Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha, under Mandela Park Local Football Association, on Sunday 26 May, the Mobz Academy FC walked away with three points after defeating Baymont FC with a solitary goal.
The goal was scored in the first stanza, with the strikers missing an avalanche of chances.
Mobz coach Malwande Fiyo cautiously welcomed the three points, saying the game should have been wrapped up early in the first half.
“The game ended up with one goal. We created a lot of opportunities but we missed them. I don’t panic a lot because the team is in the building phase,” said Fiyo.
He said his aim is to groom the youngsters to be ready for the challenge. He said half of the u-18 team was promoted to play in the senior team early this season.
“For now, I think I need to focus more on the striking force. Our target man, that we were playing with, is still young, 16 years. I still need to develop him as a striker. Even in the midfield I had a 14-year-old player. That is why I’m saying that the team is in the building phase,” he explained, adding that he was happy with the overall performance of the team.
He urged the supporters not to panic because there was a lot to come.
