Mass shootings continued in Khayelitsha, with another three people shot and killed on Monday 4 April, this time in Kuyasa.
Two people were injured in the attack.
The shooting is the third such incident in Khayelitsha in less than a month.
In a first incident five people were shot and killed execution style at New Monwabisi Park Endlovini on Monday 14 March (“K’litsha bloodbath” City Vision 17 March). No arrest has been made on this case.
A week later, on Sunday 20 March, six people were shot and killed at Enkanini informal settlement (“Another sad and shocking killing in Khayelitsha, City Vision 24 March).
A 35-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with this incident and is facing six counts of murder.
The latest shooting brings to 14 the number of people killed in Khayelitsha in a series of mass shootings.
Provincial police spokesperson Novela Potelwa said the latest incident happened at Simon Nxala Street.
According to police, five people including a woman were at the premises when the attack happened, around 22:00. It is believed the victims were sitting and drinking at the back of the premises when unidentified gunmen pounced.
Potelwa said: “This office confirms that three people were shot and killed in the Kuyasa area of Harare on Monday evening by yet-to-be identified gunmen. The shooting incident is alleged to have occurred at 22:00 in Simon Nxala Street where the victims were sitting and drinking at the back of the premises.”
She said two other people were injured.
Potelwa said the deceased include a woman and two men. They are estimated between the ages of 30 and 33.
Harare police have opened murder and attempted murder dockets.
