Masiyile High School netball team players were exhilarated after they received kit from Deputy Minister in the Presidency Zizi Kodwa on Friday 3 June.

They received two netball kits, six balls, two pumps, two whistles and seven bibs.

Part of Kodwa’s visit was to talk about social cohesion and other social ills. He described his visit as a national campaign aimed at the schools. He appealed for unity in the fight against crime and gender- based violence (GBV) in the communities.

Kodwa said he felt the need to donate to motivate the players. “Next year the country will be hosting a Netball World Cup for the first time in Africa. The world cup will be played here at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. It will start on Friday 28 July till Sunday 6 August. We also want to see young girls being part of the national team that will be representing the country,” said Kodwa.

He highlighted drug abuse, ill-disciplined learners and gangsterism as some of the challenges many schools are facing.

Teacher and netball coach Thokazi Mbadlanyana said they are delighted with the new kits and other equipment. She said the kit will motivate and boost the spirit of the players.

“We thanked the minister for the role that he played at the school. We are hoping that the players’ attitude will change and perform better,” she said. She urged other business people to come forward and assist.
