Blessed is the hand that gives rather than that receives. Those words were evident when members of Young Women Manyano (YWM) Cape District No100 donated school tracksuits to the learners of Nkazimlo Primary School in Makhaza on Thursday 25 August.
At least 28 learners benefited.
YWM Cape District No 100 secretary Singathwa Tebekwana described the event as part of the Mandela Day celebrations (celebrated annually on July 18).
“We were supposed to hand over the tracksuits during Nelson Mandela Day in July but we couldn’t because the schools were closed. Because of the passion and our love for the children we decided to continue doing the event,” said Tebekwana, adding that to them everyday is Mandela’s day.
She said their aim is to show love to the children.
She added that they asked the teachers to identify the needy children within the school.
“We wanted to show to those learners who are coming from disadvantaged families that they are not alone and we love them. This is the least that we can do to demonstrate our love to young children,” she stated.
Tebekwana said it was not the first time the manyano donated to the community. She described their contribution as part of giving back to the community.
“We started our initiative of donating to the community in 2019. We are donating to different organisations and different things. It depends on the needs of a particular organisation,” she said.
The school principal Zingubuntu Tom expressed his gratitude to the church members
“The staff and governing body members wish to extend their warmest gratitude for the donation that the church members have given to our learners who are in need. They did not only help the school but also the parents in our school environment,” said Tom.
He thanked the church members cited that they are always there for them.
