Nyanga Community Policing Forum says it won’t be intimidated by the killing of Nobuhle Sopuwa on Sunday 31 December.
The former Browns Farm Neighbourhood Watch secretary was gunned down by an unknown man while doing her laundry in her home.
The motive for the killing remains unknown.
Commenting on the murder, Nyanga CPF secretary Dumisani Qwebe lambasted the perpetrators and described them as cowards.
He stated that he believed that Sopuwa was killed because of her role in enforcing peace and safety in the area.
“Sopuwa was a dedicated member of the NHW. She worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of her community. As part of law enforcement, we won’t be deterred by what happened to Sopuwa. We will continue working to ensure that there is peace in our communities,” said Qwebe, adding that they would not rest until perpetrators were brought to book.

It is alleged that the perpetrator got out of a vehicle and shot Sopuwa. “It is a clear indication that the perpetrator planned the killing. They knew who they were looking for,” said Qwebe.
Provincial police spokesperson W/O Joseph Swartbooi said Nyanga officers attended to a complaint on Sunday 31 December and upon their arrival at a nearby hospital they found the body of an unknown woman who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her body.
He said the victim was declared deceased by the medical personnel.
“The motive for this attack is now the subject of an investigation by the officers,” said Swartbooi.
He said Nyanga officers are investigating a murder case and appealed to anyone with information to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111
