Philippi-East Police are investigating a double murder case after two people were gunned down at Stock Road near Island in Lower Crossroads on Monday 3 June.
Capt Grenville Meyer, the spokesperson for the Philippi-East Police Station, said the incident occurred at about 14:00.
He stated that the incident is possibly gang related. “Several projectiles were found at the crime scene. The case is under investigation and no arrests have been made yet,” said Meyer.
One of the Island residents who did not want to be named for fear of harassment described the incident as horrible.
The woman said she heard several gunshots while she was on her way from Watergate Centre. She said the attack looked well-orchestrate.
It is alleged the attackers shot the deceased and fled the scene in a car. “Both the deceased were outside their vehicle as if they were trying to escape. The driver opened the car door and fell. His body was next to his vehicle. While the other deceased, who was allegedly sitting in the passenger seat, fell metres from the car as if he was trying to run,” she explained.
The woman appealed for more police visibility and stop and search operations in the community.
