There are still a few spots available for teams wanting a shot at a goal at the annual u-16 Bayview Youth Cup, set to take place in June next year.
With some teams already qualifying based on their placement in the previous tournament this year, the play-offs are an opportunity for South African Football Association-registered teams to make it to the sought after competition, which kicks off on Youth Day (June 16).
Teams will vie for 48 spots with matches taking place from Saturday 11 November to Sunday 3 December.
The play-offs are open for registration until Tuesday 31 October.
Tournament director and Bayview FC chair Mark Rodrigues says the winners and runners up of each section, all academies in Cape Town, five invitational teams from outside Cape Town and a Mitchell’s Plain invitational team will make up the 16 pre-qualified teams.
“There will be 64 teams in total. The play-offs will be to fill the 48 sports,” he says. “The main tournament will start on Youth Day and finish with the finals on Saturday 21 June.”
Play-offs will be hosted at Rocklands High School. Alternative venues are being identified should the need arise, but will be hosted in the Mitchell’s Plain area. Entry to the play-offs is R300 per team and will take place on a home and away base, where teams play one game in the morning and another in the afternoon. Winners will gain access to the tournament and players 16 years old will be permitted to play in the tournament.
