Samora Machel police are investigating a murder case after an unidentified charred body was discovered at Kosovo informal settlement on Sunday 2 July.
The gruesome find was reportedly made by some residents in the morning.
The body lay next to the road.
A resident who called herself Amahle, for fear of victimisation, believes the deceased was a criminal. She complained about the high crime rate in the area.
“I saw the body, but I was standing at a distance. I was too scared to come closer. The body looked as though it was burned. I suspect the deceased robbed someone and was caught.
“We get robbed every night here, especially on weekends. My boy once lost almost all his belongings, including a television and a bag full of his clothes while he was working a night shift. The criminals broke into his shack and took everything including food,” she explained.
Provincial police spokesperson W/O Joseph Swartbooi confirmed the incident. He said the body was found at about 08:30.
“Samora Machel police responded to a complaint on Sunday 2 July and upon arrival at the crime scene at White Heart Lane in Kosovo they found the body of an unknown male who sustained fatal injuries. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The motive for the attack is still to be confirmed,” said Swartbooi.
He said Samora Machel police are investigating a murder case.
