Kosovo shack dwellers in Samora Machel were left traumatised after they discovered a body of an unknown man in raw sewage in Laduma Street on Monday 13 February.

The residents from the B-section said it was the first time such an incident had happened in the area.

Community leader Thembinkosi Tokota lambasted the perpetrators and accused them of being heartless people.

“I saw a pic of this unknown person posted by one of the community leaders in our WhatsApp community group this morning. I was so shocked. The deceased was appearing with his legs and his upper body was in the sewage,” said Tokota.

He cited that they are suspecting that the deceased body was dumped there.

“What we noticed after the body was taken out of the sewage by the police was that his mouth was closed. There is no way that you can close your mouth and eyes while you are drowning. He was supposed to open his mouth and eyes as someone who was trying to scream,” he stated, adding that initially, they thought maybe the deceased was drunk and fell into the sewage while he was walking.

When City Vision arrived at the scene, the body was already taken out of the sewage and put in a white body bag until the forensic team could arrive, with onlooking residents still in shock.
