Langa Safety Patrol (LSP) is urging residents and visitors into the area to be vigilant, citing a spree of robbery incidents perpetuated by rogue drivers.

The drivers, believed to be foreigners, allegedly go around the area robbing people of their belongings.

While police could not confirm the number of reported incidents, it is believed the group has been in operation for a while.

LSP chair Bandile Gcuwa said at least two vehicles have been linked to the robberies. He added that they reported the cars to the police but no arrests have been made.

According to him, the suspects regularly change their vehicles.

“There are vehicles with three foreign nationals robbing ladies of their cellphones and valuables on a daily basis in Langa at gun point. Their modus operandi is targeting young girls and adults. They are travelling in a white Toyota sedan or a silver Polo Playa,” said Gcuwa, adding that the trend started more than three months ago.

He urged the community to be cautious, saying they receive reports almost every hour.

“We are trying to catch them but we need people to be vigilant at all times. We are appealing to the community to stop showing off their belongings publicly,” he urged.

Langa Police Station spokesperson Capt Nondumiso Paul said they are aware of the incidents and the police are trying to arrest the perpetrators.

“We urge the community to stay alert and always go in groups to avoid being robbed. The police are always on the lookout for them. They are even doing morning and evening patrols trying to catch these culprits,” said Paul.
