Khayelitsha police are searching for a suspect that stabbed a 29-year-old woman to death at Maphongwana Street in Taiwan.
The incident happened on Sunday evening 8 May, an hour before six people were shot and killed in the same street.
Provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Thembisile Pathekile said crimes against women and children are a top priority for the Western Cape police. He added that they will do anything possible to arrest the perpetrator/s.
“The fatal stabbing incident occurred on 8 May at about 18:45 in Maphongwana Street, Taiwan, Site C, Khayelitsha. According to reports, Khayelitsha police received a complaint of a stabbed victim at the mentioned address and on arrival found the 29-year-old victim lying on the street with a stab wound to her body,” said Capt Frederick Van Wyk, provincial police spokesperson. He said the victim was certified dead on the scene by paramedics.
Van Wyk said the motive for this incident is believed to be domestic violence.
Khayelitsha police request the victim’s boyfriend, Sivuyile Tshabile, to contact them as they believe he can help with the investigation.
