A 31-year-old security guard was shot and killed at Nombula Street in Asanda Village on Wednesday 2 March.

It is believed the guard was in the area to pick a colleague up when two assailants pounced. The incident occurred around 11:00 closer to the Nomzamo Clinic. The assailants are believed to have taken the guard’s work firearm.

Lwandle police spokesperson Sgt Mthokozisi Gama said the guard was shot a few minutes after his colleague had entered his house. “The guard had come to pick up his colleague and he stepped outside the car,” he said. “They had a conversation and the colleague informed the guard he would travel to work on his own. According to the security guard he heard a number of shots and when he went to investigate the guard (colleague) was on the ground. When police arrived on the scene the guard had passed away.”

Gama said the guard sustained bullet wounds to the upper body. He said police were investigating a murder case.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact investigating officer, Constable Mfundo Soyiyo on 082 378 924.
