The Lwandle Community Policing Forum (CPF) has expressed “concerns” over shooting incidents that frequently occur in the area.

This follows the discovery of a man’s body on Tuesday 12 April.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was found with bullet wounds on his upper body. He was found laying face down in a ditch, at the back of Chris Hani informal settlement in Asanda Village.

The shocking discovery was made at about 19:45 by residents.

CPF public relations officer Phumeza Makhubela said such incidents are worrying, citing regular frequency of shooting cases.

Makhubela said they needed to find a way as the community to work with police so that they can overcome the criminal activities.

“We call on the community to assist by identifying the deceased or alert any family that may have lost a family member or doesn’t know of its whereabout. As the community we really need to work together so this threat doesn’t continue unabated,” she said.

Makhubela called for criminals involved in these acts to be brought to book.

Sgt Mthokozisi Gama, Lwandle police spokesperson, said police are seeking public assistance to locate the family of the man.

Gama said police were called to the scene, on their arrival they found an unknown male lying in the ditch facing down with multiple gun shot wounds to the chest.

“A case of murder was then opened and investigated by Lwandle police detectives. At this stage, the motive of the killing is still unknown,” he said.

He urged anyone with information about the family of the man to contact Lwandle police detective Sgt Thandokazi Base on 082 4112 735.

In a separate incident, Lwandle police were called to Pholile informal settlement on Thursday 14 April where an approximately 25-year-old man was found lying in a pool of blood.

Sgt Gama said the victim had four bullet wounds.

“It is alleged that the deceased was one of the four gunmen who arrived at this address looking for the owner of the house after which shots were heard.

He said at this stage it was still unknown who shot the deceased.

A murder case has been opened.
