Collaborating with Luyolo Lengisi’s Langaformen movement, Octotel and Cell C helped deliver impact by providing packs to beneficiaries. This partnership highlights the power of working together to make a real difference in people’s lives and support local initiatives focused on community safety and development, ultimately creating safer Langa communities and cultivating protectors.

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Langa was more than a commemorative campaign. In fact, it was a powerful gathering of hearts, voices, and action.

At the centre of this movement stood a meaningful partnership between local NGO Langaformen, Octotel (a leading South African fibre provider), and their connectivity partner, Cell C.

These organisations shared a unified vision. That vision was focused on fostering safer and more empowered communities within the areas they serve.

This movement was anchored by a significant collaboration involving Langaformen, a community-based organisation rooted in the heart of Langa.

Rasing protectors

Langaformen works tirelessly to raise “protectors” – men who lead with accountability, vulnerability, and responsibility in the fight against GBV.

During this round of the programme, Octotel and Cell C showed up not just with connectivity.

They also brought genuine presence, resources, and long-term commitment to community upliftment.

“Our commitment to Langa goes beyond fibre. Partnering with Langaformen and Cell C in this fight against GBV reflects our belief that real connectivity means showing up for communities in their moments of need. We are proud to stand in unity with the people of Langa as we work towards a safer future for all.” – Carly-Beth Haydricks, Octotel CSR Team Lead.

The GBV awareness event brought together a wide network of stakeholders — including local SAPS representatives, the City of Cape Town, community organisations, and residents. This helped form a powerful circle of solidarity. In addition, this alliance demonstrated that true connectivity extends beyond infrastructure. It is about linking people to support, information, and hope.

“GBV is a societal issue that often begins at home and is normalised in front of children. By partnering with Octotel and Langaformen, we’re using connectivity as a tool for awareness, protection, and change.” – Pashni Naiker, Regional FTTX Coordinator at Cell C.

As part of its contribution, Octotel is enabling zero-rated access to emergency and crisis GBV support numbers. This ensures that survivors and those seeking help can reach essential services without data barriers. It also provides a critical lifeline in moments of crisis.

“A big thank you to Octotel and Cell C for sponsoring our event with packs for both males and females. Your support strengthens our mission, and your presence in our community is deeply appreciated. Together, we are building a Langa that is safer, stronger, and full of hope.” – Luyolo Lengisi, Co-Founder of Langaformen.

Practical support

Through practical support such as care packs for men and women and digital access to support services, Octotel and Cell C reinforced their commitment to meaningful action. Furthermore, their visible presence on the ground showed they focused on action, not symbolism.

For Octotel, this partnership represents far more than sponsorship – it reflects a long-term commitment to social transformation.

“By connecting communities digitally, we also believe in helping them connect emotionally, socially, and safely,” added Haydricks.

“A future free of violence is possible, and we will continue to walk alongside Langa as we work together toward it.”

Octotel remains committed to strengthening and expanding its partnership with Langaformen and community leaders. As communities are connected to the digital world, they are empowered to heal and unite. Ultimately, this helps build futures where violence has no place.
