A murder suspect has been denied bail after appearing at the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court on Monday 28 March.


A murder suspect has been denied bail after appearing at the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court on Monday 28 March.

The 35-year-old suspect was nabbed in connection with the heinous murder of six people in Enkanini informal settlement in Khayelitsha on Sunday 20 March.

The suspect is believed to be involved in the shooting of six people that died in a hail of bullets after culprits, driving a private car opened fire and killed five instantly, while one died at hospital.

This prompted Harare Community Policing Forum (CPF) to urge communities to be “honest” and stop hiding criminals that are terrorising communities, “Another ‘sad and shocking’ killing in Khayelitsha” City Vision 24 March.

Community Policing Forum (CPF) chair Funeka Soldaat said the arrest of the suspect, gives them hope that those involved in the New Monwabisi, Endlovini murder will also be caught.

Five people were shot and killed at New Monwabisi Park.

Provincial police spokesperson Brig Novela Potelwa said as part of ongoing investigations into the recent multiple murders in Khayelitsha, organised crime detectives have arrested a suspect.

“The 35-year-old suspect has been charged with murder. Two women and four men between the ages of 18 and 27 were allegedly shot dead by three gunmen at 16:10 in Lindela Road on Sunday,” she said.

Potelwa said as the investigation gains momentum the detectives assigned to the case have their sights set on specific leads with more arrests imminent.
