Harare police in Khayelitsha are investigating a case of business robbery after unknown men entered Noxolo Xauka primary school in Makhaza and robbed teachers on Tuesday 30 May.

Provincial police spokesperson Capt Nowonga Sukwana said two men were armed with firearms while two others grabbed cellphones.

She added that police are on the lookout for the suspects and that no arrest has yet been made.

Provincial education department spokesperson Bronagh Hammond confirmed the incident and stated that six unknown men robbed the school.

“It was reported that six males held the principal and four staff members at gunpoint while they stole a microwave, two computer monitors and three cellphones. They then allegedly hijacked a parent and drove off with the car,” she said.

Hammond vowed that the department will be assisting staff with counselling support via their Employee Wellness program.

“Thankfully no physical injuries were reported, however, our thoughts and our support are with our colleagues who had to endure such a traumatic and frightful experience. The department will also engage with the school on their security measures,” said Hammond.

Anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects can contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
