An 18-year-old boy was fatally shot at Valangentambo Park in Driftsands on Saturday evening, 10 September.
Residents were rattled by a number of gunshots ringing out, which left the boy, dead.
It’s unclear what led to the shooting.
Reports are that the deceased was drinking with the perpetrator, who fled the scene on foot, before the incident.
One resident, a 33-year-old woman, said she heard gunshots and went to investigate.
“When I arrived the deceased was lying on the ground,” she said.
“He had not been covered yet.
“Apparently, the deceased was drinking at a shebeen in the area with his friend. It is said they had an argument, but his friend later followed him when he went to pee and that’s when shots were heard.”
Mfuleni police station spokesperson W/O November Filander said a murder docket had been opened.
“An 18-year-old boy was fatally shot in the neck,” he said.
“When police arrived at the scene they found the deceased lying on the ground and no-one knew what had happened.” Filander said the motive was still unknown and police were seeking the suspect and witnesses.
