A memorial service for the late African National Congress (ANC) Ward 38 councillor Glastone Thembisile Ntamo will be held in KTC on Wednesday 31 August, ahead of his funeral in Cofimvaba, Eastern Cape, on Saturday 3 September.

Ntamo, who served as the ward councillor from 1995 until 2011, died at the Rondebosch Medical Centre on Thursday 18 August after being unwell for a long time. He died of heart-related illnesses

At the time of his passing he was serving another term as councillor, following his re-election in November last year.

Ntamo’s nephew and family spokesperson Akhona Jonginamba said while funeral arrangements are underway no date has yet been set for the departure of the body.

“We are not sure when exactly we are leaving with the body in Cape Town because we are still going to engage with the funeral parlour about that.

“But the memorial service will be on Wednesday 31 August at KTC hall,” said Jonginamba.

Banele Majingo, the leader of the ANC in the City of Cape Town council, said the ANC caucus in the City is deeply saddened by Ntamo’s passing.

“We want to extend our sincerest condolences to his family, comrades, and friends and also to the community of New Crossroads and KTC who nominated and elected him to serve as their public representative,” said Majingo, adding that as his colleagues they will be visiting the family to convey the condolences.

Majingo said Sub-council 13 chair Thandi Makasi, where Ntamo served, will be representing the ANC caucus on the funeral committee with the family.
