Harare Police Station’s anti hijacking team made a major breakthrough when they arrested two suspects, the alleged masterminds behind the carjackings and cloning of car registration numbers and VIN numbers in Harare policing precinct.

The team has been on a mission to nab the suspects for some time. And on Tuesday 8 March, at approximately 14:30, they pounced on the alleged kingpins in 31 Section Makhaza.

Harare police spokesperson Capt Siyabulela Vukubi said on arrival at the premises officers caught the suspects busy with a vehicle (bronze Toyota Corolla) that was reported stolen in Durbanville last month.

“During the search a set of number plates, cellphones, multiple tools including a drilling machine and VIN stencel were found on the premises. A set of number plates found was established to be belonging to a Silver Toyota Corolla which was also stolen in Durbanville during December 2021,” he said.

The suspects aged 37 and 58 were due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court today ( 10 March) on charges of possession of stolen property and possession of a stolen vehicle.
