- The suspects were arrested the two suspects, age 24 and 32, or their alleged involvement in the murder of the officer, on 1 February 2024.
- The matter is postponed to Thursday 8 February for bail information.
Two suspects appeared in
Khayelitsha Magistrates‘ Court today in connection with the murder of a police officer in Site
C in the area on Friday 26 January.
Provincial Hawks
spokesperson Lt. Col Siyabulela Vukubi said the Hawks’ Bellville-based
National Priority Violent Crime (NPVC) team, in
conjunction with the Western Cape Flying Squad, swiftly
arrested two suspects, aged 24 and 32, for their alleged involvement in
the murder of the officer, on 1 February 2024. (“Police officer killed in

He said: “This
arrest emanates from an incident in which an off-duty
police sergeant, together with a civilian, was shot and
killed in Khayelitsha on Friday 26 January. During the
investigation into the murders the suspects were identified and arrested. Both have
made a court appearance in Khayelitsha for their alleged involvement in the
murder of a police officer. The matter is postponed to Thursday 8 February for bail
information.“
The Western Cape Provincial Head
of the Hawks, Maj-Gen Mathipa Makgato, applauded the team for the swift
and prompt arrest of the suspects and further reiterated that the Hawks will
leave no stone unturned whenever a police officer is
killed.
A community leader who spoke on
condition of anonymity for fear of harassment applauded the officers for doing
a great job. He said the arrest of the suspects will give closure to the
deceased’s families. “We condemn the killing of any
civilian,” he said, “and killing an officer is the same as attacking
the state. We want the perpetrators to rot in jail. We don’t have space for
them in our society.“
